Jillian Dorsey, M.L.A., Staff Landscape Architect attended Rutgers University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health in 2014, and subsequently a Master of Landscape Architecture in 2019. During graduate school, Jillian served as an Eagleton Fellow with the Eagleton Institute of Politics where she had the privilege of serving as an intern in New Jersey Governor Philip Murphy’s office. While interning, she tracked and researched the efficacy of policies and laws created throughout the Governor’s time in office. Jillian also studied abroad in Germany where she expanded her understanding of how landscape architecture impacts different cultures. In addition, her thesis, which can be found published in the Rutgers library archives, dives into topics regarding the health of the Lower Raritan Watershed; she focused on how residents living with streams in their backyards’ could act as better stewards of the land.
Jillian has always had an interest in art and design as well as making the world a better, healthier place. The field of landscape architecture allows her to enjoy both! Jillian began her professional career with the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the state of New Jersey. After transitioning into the world of landscape architecture, she gained experience working for a large civil engineering firm for 3 years with a focus on commercial landscape architecture. In the beginning of 2023, she made her way north to work with Land Identity.
Jillian is working toward becoming a Licensed Landscape Architect and has begun taking the series of required exams. At Land Identity, Jillian works on both commercial and residential landscape design projects. She has a broad knowledge base including overall site/layout design, lighting design, planting plans, grading, drainage and utility plans, 3-dimensional design and more. In the future, she hopes to get involved with both public parks and playground design.
Currently, Jillian resides in Garwood with her husband Evan and their two cuddly, FIV positive cats, Grayson and Zarathustra (Zara). When not working, you can find Jillian taking tap dancing classes, making jewelry, reading, listening to podcasts, or watching the latest true crime documentary while enjoying an iced coffee and a crumbly pastry to satisfy her sweet tooth!
